Well that was most certainly a difficult customer.
This little tawny owl got him self stuck in a chimney in central Norwich 4 days ago. He had been calling but unable to get himself out.
We went along today with Dan and Will from Marine and Wildlife Rescue to take a look.
Sadly once we got there we could tell that we needed more assistance so that we could get eyes on the little fella.
So we called in Nick from SmartSweep . Nick was actually on his day off, but he still came out in double quick time to hwlp this little guy. Nick had a fantastic camera that he used to get eyes on the tawny, which helped massively, then with eyes on the little guy, he used his brushes etc to get the little guy down the chimney so that we could then reach up and get him. This took 4 hours as the little chap kept sitting tight on a tiny ledge within the chimney, but we were not giving up.
What a fantastic team effort
But a great big thank you to Nick for coming out on his day off.

The rehabilitation aviaries are slowly getting there for the busy season, still quite a bit to do, but at least they can be used.

This lil guy came in 2 weeks ago after being found on the road and taken to The old golf house vets in Thetford. He is doing well and is sampling the new aviaries before he returns to where his home.

Today we unwrapped our 3 new TLC units, these were brought from money gifted to us from the Belforte trust as well as a new extra large chest freezer. These items replaced old second hand items that needed TLC themselves.
These units are instrumental when birds come to us in shock and need warming up and maintaining at a good temperature.
Already 1 is on uses after a call out to Wells for a very poorly tawny owl.
Our older units will be distributed to some of our rehabbers who sometimes hold birds over night before they come into the hospital

Meet ‘Buzz’ our resident juvenile buzzard….thanks to Jo & her amazing team at Phoenix Rescue this beautiful bird was released back on our farm this morning after being treated at Jo’s rescue centre in Lenwade, Norwich. This isn’t the first injured bird we have taken to Jo and as always Jo is at the end of the phone explaining to us what we can safely do to capture the bird & get it safely to her…it is never a problem no matter what time of the day, thank you so so much, from us all at Lordsbridge 😊

On a brighter note
This little tawny owl was found on the side of the road near Wretham, his rescuer picked him up and kept him safe and warm until being met by one of our volunteers.
He was then brought into the hospital where he received a full check over. He had no broken bones but was sadly quite concussed and had a facial wound.
With some tlc and some time to recover, He was taken back this afternoon to be released back to where he was found.
It is always so rewarding to get these little guys back to where they came from. Good luck lil guy

A lovely afternoon for getting some birds released. This lovely red kite came in a few days ago a little deflated and hungry. These guys are fantastic actors and play dead very well, making rehabbing them complicated.
Thankfully after a bit of a feed up and warm up, he was ready to take flight again.
We also released a stunning male barn owl, who was found in December. He had a non surgical fractior to his wing and needed some time to recover.
Today he flew off beautifully, however his finder was not in the region to join us, making getting a Video difficult alone.
It is always so rewarding to to get these magnificent birds back out where they belong

Sometimes we get tawny owls in that have suffered sever concussion. They can not stand or work out their surroundings due to the swelling around the brain.
These little guys require gentle. Slow treatment and small feeds to help them recover.
We use our TLC units to help keep them warm and stable, whilst supporting them with the aid of towels made into a ring, to help them feel secure and upright.
We keep them in the dark primarily so that his eyes and brain do not have cope with the brightness, given that he is nocturnal and has a brain injury.
We have found this method works very well along with anti-inflamitories.
This little guy came in from Glaven Veterinary Practice in Holt.
Fingers crossed for this lily guy

Here is another little tawny owl release from today.
This little guy was found by the side of the road, concussed and in quite a sorry state.
He has been in for a little while recovering, as you can see, he was soon off back to where he came from all recovered and strong again.
It's always so rewarding for not just us, but for the people that found these lily guys, to see them all well again and flying off for their second chance.
Good luck lil guy

It's been unusually busy with tawny owls over the last few weeks.
We have 2 little tawny owls just rebuilding strength out in the avairy before they go back out. Both were found beside roads with head trauma. After some TLC and some time, they have made full recoveries and will head back out this week.
The other little tawny, came in last week from Toll Barn Veterinary Centre Limited, again, found beside a road, sadly he sustained a broken with, this has been repaired and he is recovering well. His bruising is going down nicely and he is being a good patient, as he is on antibiotics and has to have his wing cleaned daily so ge doenat get an infection
These little guys do quite often sit on the road, then get blinded by car lights and can not fly away.

Wow, what a busy day.
2 tawny owls released and 1 kestrel released.
A buzzard from Norwich train station sadly hit a line, came in with a very badly damaged wing. Her injuries were too severe, and she didn't make it.
A kestrel from Bungay also came in today, she is very thin and looks to be an older bird. She has had fluids and is now in the TLC unit.

he new year and new rescues are coming.ing in.
This little fella found himself into a bedroom and onto a comfy bed.
After a few days of being seen around the area in the cold and obviously struggling, he took shelter in a warm bedroom.
The homeowner from Suffolk kept the little guy safe and warm over night and then very kindly escorted him to us following morning.
Once he was warmed up he soon felt up to having a little bite to eat before resting up to digest.
This little chap is now eating really well and is looking much healthier.
When birds come in starving and cold, our main goal is to warm them up slowly and gently in one of our TLC units then offer small feeds and fluids so that the birds system doesn't go into shock.
After 24 hours of gentle feeding we let them have whole food to deal with themselves to get them built back up before they can move to an avairy to build up fitness and condition before release.
